Farmer hacks 8 to death
Police have arrested a farmer in northern China for hacking eight members of a family to death with an axe after serving a sentence for raping a woman who had just married into the family, the China Daily says.
Jian Xueliang, 35, was arrested in western Shaanxi province some 13 hours after the killings, including those of two children aged four and 10 and a pair of 15-year-old twins, the newspaper said on Friday.
Jian had been jailed in 1999 for raping the new bride of neighbour Yang Rongwen and released in October last year. Jian always denied the charge and said he had been having an affair with bride Yu Xiaojun, the China Daily quoted villagers as saying.
Yu was among those found hacked to death with an axe together with her 80-year-old grandfather, her husband, their four-year-old son and Yu's 10-year-old nephew.
Also killed where Yu's brother-in-law and his 15-year-old twins -- a boy and a girl, all found with deep axe wounds in their necks. The elder daughter, aged 19, escaped because she was at school. |
