                             Double Dosage: Religion Can Kill
GRANDFATHER:
The relative who called police said an exorcism had also been attempted Thursday.
"The purpose was to release demons from this very young child," said Sgt. Joel Tranter.

...officers pushed (the bedroom door) open a few inches and saw Marquez choking his bloodied granddaughter, who was crying in pain and gasping, Tranter said.

A bloody, naked 19-year-old woman who police later determined to be Marquez's daughter and the girl's mother was in the room, chanting "something that was religious in nature," Tranter said.

TALIBAN:
The kidnappers killed the leader of the (Christian) Korean group on Wednesday, but several further deadlines have passed without the rebels carrying out their threat to kill the remaining hostages.

(no mention of why the Christian group went to such a dangerous place to begin with;
would
you go there?)

Reading between
the lines:

GRANDFATHER:
The officers forced open the door enough for one to enter, leading to a struggle in which an officer used a stun gun on the old man; another officer squeezed into the room and also stunned him.
He was then placed in handcuffs after the struggle and initially appeared normal, but then stopped breathing.  He could not be revived and was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Looks like those demons were pretty pissed off.

TALIBAN:
Hostage-taking and the abuse of foreign guests, especially women, is against Islam and Afghan culture and the perpetration of this heinous act on our soil is in total contempt of our Islamic and Afghan values," a spokesman quoted him as saying.
But, hey, when's that ever stopped religious fanatics before, eh?
